A Simple Android App – Lottery Picker aka Random Number Generator

My first android app released to the market is a simple number generator that is marketed towards lottery numbers. You could use it to generate a number of random integers, it does not need to be used specifically for the lottery.

The google play location is found here (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lottery.picker).

I may release the code if anyone wants it, but for now it will remain unreleased (although if you know what you are doing, you could easily get it).

The app looks like this:

As you can see, the app itself is basic. I wanted to get a feel for the android API and did not want to go overboard. This project could be done by many beginners I feel.

When you open the app you are asked for how many numbers to generate, the minimum number, and the maximum. There are restraints in place (like any programmer should do). Through testing I found without restraints you get crashes, which many apps in the wild get (notoriously the facebook app). Test your apps plenty before releasing, and then test some more.

I am short on time so I cannot say much.

Some tips for some beginners out there:

  • Start small
  • Research plenty
  • Don’t go overboard
  • Focus on one task at a time
  • Study the API
  • Google is your friend

In order to release an app to the market you must pay a one time fee of $25. It is easy to pay via credit card. You may release as many apps as you want after. Once you release an app, it can take a couple hours to show up in the market. If you make changes, these changes can take a few hours.

You may notice an ad in the app, this is from admob a service by google which is a great network. In a few days/weeks I will be making a post comparing admob to blackberries adservice.

In short, admob can be used for both android and iphone making it key to any developer.

If you find any errors in my app, let me know. I may upgrade the UI in the future if there is interest.

Hi there, sorry for taking so long. Your comment got stuck in spam land. I cannot release the source to this. Are you looking to build something similar and need a hand?
