Disabling The Speaker On A Wanscam Wireless HD 720P IP Camera T10 HW0036
I recently tested out a 720p Wanscam camera. This camera lacked some serious documentation but, I was able to get it running eventually. The box itself did not have much information either, except that it was a Wanscam baby and security monitor. I believe the model number is HW0036. One thing that seriously irked me was that every so often (multiple times a day) it would reset itself and in the loudest voice ever say that it is ready to use. This is so loud, it can be heard outside. Now, for something being advertised as a baby monitor you would think you could turn this off. To my surprise, no. There was no setting to be found to turn this off.
I thought, surely there must be something I can do. So I opened it up and found an easy “fix” by simply disconnecting the speaker. This can be done easily and by anyone.
Firstly, you will want to take out the three screws below. They are small, but should be easily removed.
Secondly, pull back on the case with the lens. It should be free now. Careful to not rip it out, there are cables hooked up to it. You only want it off enough to get access to it (see third picture).
Third step, is to take off the wire below. It is the one that goes to the speaker.
Lastly, put it back together and turn it on. It is easy as that. It should only take five minutes, but now your speaker is off.
